THIBODAUX – The Tulane baseball team got six runs in the top of the fourth and then overcame a 10-8 deficit in the final three innings to knock off host Nicholls 14-12 Tuesday evening at Ray E. Didier Field.

In addition to the 26 runs, the two teams combined for 32 hits.

The win gave the Green Wave (8-4) its fifth straight victory, while Nicholls suffered its first home defeat to drop to 11-3.

Tulane left fielder Jackson Linn went 4-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored. Designated hitter Nathan Rose went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while catcher Colin Tuft had another big day at the plate, driving in three with two more hits. The Green Wave got solo homers from right fielder Matthias Haas and Rose and a two-run shot by Brock Slaton. Linn also added a triple.

For Nicholls, first baseman Edgar Alvarez went 4-for-6 himself (including a three-run homer in the second inning) with four RBI to go with a 4-for-5 effort by shortstop Parker Coddou.

Tulane reliever Jacob Moore (1-0) got the win. He got five outs while giving up two hits to go with two strikeouts. He gave way to Trey Cehajic who nailed down his third save, allowing one earned run and four hits over the game’s last two innings with one walk.

Green Wave third baseman Gavin Schulz came up big in a crucial spot as he and Tuft tied the game at 10 with back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh. Linn then put TU ahead with an RBI double in the eighth and first baseman Brady Marget, Rose and Linn drove in three more with singles in the ninth.

The Colonels pulled back two in the ninth against Cehajic but the tall righty got a lineout to defensive replacement James Agabedis III at third to end the game.

The game lasted three hours and 42 minutes. Nicholls struggled defensively for much of the game, making five errors.

Tulane has a quick turnaround as it faces Grambling (2-8) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
