Tulane falls at South Alabama, 8-1

MOBILE, Ala. – The Tulane University baseball team suffered its fifth mid-week loss of the 2022 campaign Tuesday night, as it dropped an 8-1 decision to South Alabama inside Stanky Field.

Tulane collected three hits and left seven on the bases. In the end, their performance couldn’t hold on to that of South Alabama.

The game was scoreless through two and a half until South Alabama broke the silence with a three-run frame. They would add to the lead in the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings.

Tulane threatened to score in the sixth as it put a runner in scoring position, but that was as close as it would get. The Green Wave remained scoreless until the top of the ninth when sophomore Bennett Lee drilled a triple down the left baseline that drove in Simon Baumgardt who walked to lead off the inning.

Only three men in Olive and Blue picked up hits in Mobile, redshirt sophomore Ethan Groff, Brady Hebert and Lee. .

Graduate student Carter Robinson suffered the loss and dropped to 2-4 on the year after he worked 2.2 innings, struck out three and gave up two earned runs.

South Alabama’s Walker Johnson picked up the win for the Jags after he went 6.0 innings and struck out seven batters.

The Wave returns to action on Friday to start a three-game series in Orlando against UCF. Friday night’s first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
