LSU running back Trey Holly, who was suspended following a February shooting incident in Union Parish, will not be facing an attempted murder charge.

On Friday, a grand jury dismissed the attempted murder charge against Holly, instead opting to charge him with one felony count of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality. Michael Small, Holly’s attorney, stated that his client intends to plead not guilty to the charge.

The 19-year old Holly turned himself into police on February 15 and was initially charged with three felonies including second-degree attempted murder following a shooting at a Farmerville, Louisiana apartment complex on February 9. The shooting resulted in two individuals sustaining gunshot wounds.

LSU took immediate action to suspend Holly upon his arrest, and the true sophomore has been absent from the team’s spring practice sessions.

Holly, a Union Parish High School product, holds the state record for most career high school rushing yards.
