St. Michael the Archangel did not need a long-range search for its new football coach. The Class 4A/Division II school announced Tuesday that assistant coach Joey Sanchez has accepted the job as the Warriors’ head coach.
“This is not something I expected when I came here last year,” Sanchez told The Advocate. “When coach (Justin) Hutchinson hired me, my expectation was to work with him for a number of years. My focus now will be continuing the things (Hutchinson) started as we continue to build the program toward the future.”
Hutchinson resigned after one season at St. Michael last week in order to become the defensive coordinator at Class 5A Central.
