HAMMOND, La. – The 2024 Southland Conference Baseball and Softball Championships will be held in Hammond, America, the league office announced Tuesday.

The 2024 SLC Softball Championship will return to North Oak Park May 7-10. SLU will serve as the host site for the fifth time in program history and the third time in the past four years. The league tournament previously came to Hammond in 2005, 2014, 2021 and 2022.

Two weeks later, the 2024 Southland Baseball Championship will be held at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for the third time. The tournament, set for May 22-25, will be the third hosted in Hammond, as the Lions held the 2004 and 2021 tournaments at the Pat. In 2022, the Lions played host to one of the two four-team brackets.

“We are extremely excited to have both tournaments returning to Hammond, America,” Southeastern Director of Athletics Jay Artigues said. “This is great for our athletic department and teams, our university, and the entire community. Anytime we have events like this, it impacts the economy in Hammond and all of Tangipahoa Parish. It’s always great to show off our facilities, university, and community in Hammond. Our corporate sponsors do a great job of supporting us throughout the year, and anytime we can bring events like this back to Hammond and show our support, it goes a long way.”

The 2024 Southland Conference Baseball and Softball Championships were originally scheduled to be held in Lake Charles, but the SLC also announced the extension of the agreement to host the conference Basketball Championships at McNeese’s Legacy Center through the 2029 season. With the extension of the tournament, the baseball and softball championships were released back to the conference’s bid process for 2024.

The championship committee reviewed all bids for baseball and softball and used five priorities in selecting sites, including student-athlete experience, quality of facility, staffing, financial bid, and hotel accommodations. Southeastern and the Hammond area were unanimously approved for both championships.

Southland Conference Commissioner Chris Grant will be on the campuses of McNeese and Southeastern for joint press conferences this week. The Lake Charles press conference will occur Wednesday at 11 a.m. inside the Legacy Center. The Hammond press conference will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. inside the Victory Club at Strawberry Stadium.
