Southeastern’s Johnson and Blanchard are opening week winners of Southland Softball Player of the Week honors

FRISCO, Texas – After a season-opening sweep of Missouri State, Southeastern Louisiana earned both Southland Softball Player of the Week awards to start the 2023 season, as announced Monday by the conference office.

Hitter of the Week: Lexi Johnson, Southeastern – Jr. – INF – Reserve, La. (Riverside Acad.)
Johnson was SLU’s top hitter in a three-game sweep of defending Missouri Valley Conference Tournament champion Missouri State to open the season. She was 5-for-5 with three RBI in Sunday’s doubleheader sweep of the Bears. She hit .750 for the weekend (6-of-8) with three RBI and an OPS of 1.653.

Pitcher of the Week: Cera Blanchard, Southeastern – Jr. – RHP – Metairie, La. (De La Salle HS)
Blanchard was 2-0 in her debut weekend for Southeastern. The newcomer had a 0.00 ERA and held Missouri State to a .172 batting average in 8.0 innings of work.

Honorable Mention: Katy Janes, HCU.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
