NEW ORLEANS, La. – The reigning Southland Conference champions Southeastern Louisiana University women’s basketball team claims its second conference game of the season on the road with a 57-44 victory over New Orleans Saturday afternoon at the Lakefront Arena.

Southeastern (6-7, 2-0) had a slow start, but caught back up to New Orleans (4-9, 1-1) to only nine points in the second quarter of the contest. The Lady Lions finished the second quarter with a 14-9 advantage over the Privateers led by junior guard Arianna Patton.

Jones College transfer Patton had a career-high performance of 12 points and three steals to lead the Lady Lions in scoring. Patton had a huge impact from the three-point line shooting 67.6 percent over the Privateers and finished the game going 5-7 from the field.

The Privateers went on an 8-0 run coming out the gate in the first quarter to give New Orleans all the momentum. Jayla Kimbrough proved to be a tough match-up for the Lady Lions and led all scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds. Kimbrough was the only player for the Privateers as Nahja Scott followed with eight points. Southeastern was able to cut into the deficit to gain a one-point advantage going into the second quarter.

SLU came out with energy coming out of halftime to attain their best scoring run of 11 points over the Privateers who capitalized off easy points at the free throw line to continue the back-and-forth game.

Southeastern took care of business to extend its lead throughout the fourth quarter.

The Lady Lions were able to close out the game with a 13-point advantage on the road after a rough start.
