Trey Schaffer

Southeastern left-hander Trey Shaffer announced Tuesday that he will transfer to LSU.

Shaffer spent the past four seasons with the Lions, showing promise as a pitching prospect but struggling this past season. The preseason All-Southland Conference pick and D1Baseball Preseason Conference Pitcher of the Year lost his spot in SLU’s rotation, ending the year with a 4.95 ERA despite 59 strikeouts in 40 innings. His command was poor until a late-season surge as a reliever.

The Biloxi native shined in the COVID-shortened 2020 season in 22 innings with a 1.23 ERA, allowing just eight hits and fanning 32.

Schaffer will try to take advantage the departures of juniors Jaden Hill and Landon Marceaux as well as signees Ben Kudrna and Brock Selvidge, all MLB Draft picks this week.

All-American infielder Jacob Berry, catcher Trey McManus and right-handed pitcher Eric Reyzelman previously announced their plans to transfer to LSU.
