HAMMOND, La. – Nine student-athletes have committed to continuing their academic and athletic endeavors as members of the Southeastern Louisiana football program, Lion head coach Frank Scelfo announced on Wednesday.

The newest Lions include linebacker Kevin “KJ” Bickham (6-1, 180, Amite, La./Amite HS), defensive lineman Terry Delaney III (6-3, 290, Baton Rouge, La./Tara HS), defensive back Tyreshon Freeman (6-1, 180, Prattville, Ala./Autauga Academy) and defensive back Raymond Cutler (5-11, 180, Prattville, Ala./Autauga Academy) to bolster the SLU defense.

Offensive additions on Wednesday included quarterback Christian Westcott (6-0, 220, Mandeville, La./Lakeshore HS), wide receiver Terrell Carter (San Diego, Calif./College of San Mateo), tight end Cade Collier (6-6, 245, Mobile, Ala./Baker HS), quarterback Eli Sawyer (6-2, 220, Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) and wide receiver/tight end Dominique Webster (6-4, 200, Prattville, Ala./Autauga Academy).

Southeastern opened the recruiting season by inking 16 in December and Wednesday’s additions brings the class total to 25. Scelfo believes he and his staff met most of the immediate needs in December and went into the February portion of the signing period looking to improve in specific aspects.

“We needed to increase our depth, length and speed,” Scelfo commented. “When we were in those two playoff games this past year, it was evident that we needed to make some strides from a physicality and athleticism stand point. We believe we helped that issue in December and these nine young men we added today all fit the mold of what we’re looking for.”

Southeastern continued its tradition of recruiting in-state first, as 15 of the 25 members of the signing class came from the Pelican State. The class was rounded out by six from Alabama, two from Mississippi, one from Kentucky and one from California.

“We start our recruiting in southeast Louisiana and gradually work our way out,” Scelfo said. “We truly believe we can consistently win and compete for championships with players from this area. Of the 25 players we signed, 23 are from within five hours of our campus.”

Fans looking for more information on the 2020 signing class can check out the Signing Day Show presented by Champagne Beverage, scheduled for this evening at Tope La Catering in downtown Hammond.

The show will air from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM and a free live video stream will also be able on the Southeastern Sports Network at www.youtube.com/sluathletics.

Scelfo and host Allen Waddell, as well as a group of guests – recruiting coordinator Ross Jenkins, wide receiver Austin Mitchell, offensive lineman Rendon Miles-Character, linebacker Alexis Ramos and defensive lineman Ronald Cherry III, will discuss the program’s 2020 signing class and all things Lion Football.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for fans with free admission offered to Touchdown Club and S Club members. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available.

Spring practice opens on March 3 with the annual Spring Game set for April 4. The Lions will open the 2020 schedule on Thursday, September 3 at in-state foe Tulane.
