Will Warren

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana right-hander Will Warren was voted the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Sunday. The conference’s weekly awards are presented by Hercules Tires.

Warren held Houston Baptist to a pair of singles over eight innings Thursday, tossing the first shutout of his career as Southeastern picked up a 10-0, run-rule victory over the Huskies. He picked off the second batter to reach, ultimately facing just one over the minimum in the game.

The junior from Brandon, Mississippi retired the first 11 batters and final 11 batters of the game, tying a career-high with 11 strikeouts. It marked the fourth time Warren has recorded double-digit strikeouts this season.

He was previously named the conference’s pitcher of the week back on April 19 for his performance at Stephen F. Austin in which he initially set his career-best in strikeouts. In that outing, he allowed one run in 6.1 innings pitched while fanning 11 batters.

Warren combines with Brennan Stuprich (April 12) and Will Kinzeler (March 9, March 29) to give the Southeastern pitching staff five weekly Southland awards, the most in the conference this season.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted.
