Rosco Eastmond

FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men’s basketball team got its first Southland Conference weekly honor in nearly two full calendar years as Roscoe Eastmond was named SLC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

Eastmond, a senior guard from Marietta, Ga., averaged 14 points and 8.5 assists on 45.5% shooting on the week, including 42.9% on three-point attempts, as the Lions picked up a pair of big wins on the week.

In Monday’s 80-58 win at Houston Christian, Eastmond scored 13 points and dished out 12 assists, tying the mark for the sixth-most assists in a single game in SLU program history. He hit five of his 10 shot attempts against the Huskies, including one-of-two from deep, while hitting both free throws he was awarded during the contest. His four steals against HCU set a new season-high.

He followed that up on Saturday with a season-best 15 points against (RV)/(RV) McNeese, going five-of-12 from the field and two-of-five from three while also hitting all three of the free throw attempts he took in the 77-74 win over the Cowboys which gave McNeese its first SLC loss of the season and ended what was the nation’s longest win streak at 14 games.

The award is Eastmond’s first career SLC Player of the Week honor, and is the first conference weekly award won by a Lion since Gus Okafor was named SLC Player of the Week on Feb. 28, 2022.
