HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team scored early and often Tuesday night on its way to a 15-3, run-rule victory over Alcorn State in seven innings at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Southeastern (20-19) scored in each of its six trips to the plate the Braves (2-32). The 16 SLU hits were one shy of a single-game high for the season.

The Lions applied offensive pressure immediately, chasing Alcorn starting pitcher Andrew Chirinos from the game before he recorded an out.

Parker Coley was hit by Chirinos’ first pitch of the game. Ryan Brome and Shea Thomas drew back-to-back walks while the right-hander uncorked four wild pitches. Both Coley and Brome advanced around the diamond to score solely on wild pitches. Thomas scored on an RBI single by Jake Killingsworth.

With SLU leading, 3-0, Alcorn cut a run off the Lion advantage in the second following a walk, a double and a fielding error.

Southeastern got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Cole Stromboe led off the second with a triple to left-center field, coming home to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Coley.

The Lions broke the game wide open in the third, batting around on the way to pushing across seven runs for an 11-1 lead.

Stromboe, who enjoyed the first four-hit night by a Lion in more than two years, contributed an RBI single while Thomas contributed the big blast, a three-run homer to left-center.

A leadoff walk in the fourth led to another run.

SLU extended its advantage to 14-1 following a pair of singles by Brome and Thomas to open up the fifth. Brome eventually scored on a wild pitch. Thomas scored on Jake Haze’s RBI single through the right side.

A one-out double by Stromboe in the sixth led to the Lions’ final run, scoring on a pinch-hit single by Dom Regira.

The Braves picked up their final runs in the seventh on a two-run homer.

Carson Robb (3-0) earned the win, allowing one unearned run in 4.0 innings of work. He scattered one hit and one walk, striking out seven batters. Kaleb Howell worked the final three innings to pick up the first save of his collegiate career. Chirinos (0-7) suffered the loss.

Stromboe (4-for-4), Brome (3-for-3), Haze (2-for-4) and Thomas (2-for-4) turned in multi-hit performances for the Lions. Thomas drove in three and, along with Brome and Stromboe, also scored three runs.

The win snaps a season-high skid of nine games for SLU.
