Saints waive kicker Brett Maher

The first kicker to fill the void left by Wil Lutz’s need for surgery didn’t last long.

The Saints have waived Brett Maher with an injury designation.

Kicker Brett Maher suffered a groin injury while warming up for the Baltimore game, leading to his waived/injured designation today.

Maher kicked for the Cowboys in 2018 and 2019 but did not see the field last year.

New Orleans needs a kicker again as Lutz recovers from a repaired core muscle. He is not expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

The Saints also placed offensive tackle Kyle Murphy on injured reserve.
