New Orleans Saints punter Thomas Morstead has been named the NFC’s Special Teams Player of the Month, the NFL announced Thursday morning.

It’s the first time Morstead, an 11-year veteran, has received the honor in his career.

The SMU product is currently third in the league in yards per punt average at 48.8 and fifth in net at 44.3 while also having 11 of his 17 punts downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Morestead’s ability to change field position for the Saints has been on display in particular the past two games won by New Orleans despite not having quarterback Drew Brees in the lineup.
