The Saints signed defensive end Chase Young to a one-year contract Monday. Less than a day later, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Young will undergo neck surgery.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport also reported Young’s recovery should have him ready for the start of the 2024 regular season in September.

The 24-year old Young’s deal could pay him up to $13 million but much of that is based on his availability in the regular season, meaning the Saints are taking a small gamble on the health of the former No. 2 overall pick while hoping for a big reward.

Starting last season with Washington and ending up in the Super Bowl with San Francisco, the 6-foot-5, 264-pound Young had 7.5 sacks.
