The NFL mandated that teams reduce their preseason rosters from 85 to 80 by mid-afternoon Tuesday, and the Saints made a flurry of moves with some related to injuries.

The New Orleans Saints announced that they have placed cornerback Brian Poole, defensive tackle Jalen Dalton and tackle Ethan Greenidge on Injured Reserve, waived punter Nolan Cooney and waived/injured defensive end Marcus Willoughby. The announcements were made by Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Poole and Dalton were injured in Monday’s preseason game against the Jaguars. A second straight season is a lost one due to a torn triceps for Dalton, who will undergo surgery.

Players placed on IR in training camp are ineligible to play that season for the team.

Meanwhile, the top two Saints tight ends were also injured against Jacksonville.

Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football reports starter Adam Trautman appears to have avoided a serious foot injury after leaving the sidelines on a cart but the second-year pro will see a specialist.

An MRI on an apparent knee injury was needed for tight end Nick Vannett, reported Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Potential starting cornerback Ken Crawley was also banged up Monday night and set to miss “a couple of weeks,” according to Underhill.
