Quarterback is considered the most important position on the football field. That means Tulane can savor a huge addition to their 2021 recruiting class.

Four-star dual-threat quarterback Ty Keyes of Taylorsville, Miss. pledged Friday to the Green Wave on Twitter.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Keyes has an impressive list of offers from FBS programs such as Auburn, Kansas, Louisville, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss.

Ranked the fifth-best prospect in Mississippi by Rivals, sixth best by ESPN and 11th best by 247 Sports, Keyes has a 44-2 record as a starter entering his fourth varsity campaign. He’s led his team to three state championship games, winning two Class 2A title (2017 and ’19).

In 2018, Keyes missed the state championship game after suffering an ankle injury in the semifinals. He has been Mississippi’s Class 2A “Mr. Football” each of the last two years and the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2019 when he threw for 3,721 yards last season with 41 touchdown passes and seven interceptions while adding added 422 yards and four more scores on the ground.

In his prep career to date, Keyes has already amassed 12,134 yards, 125 touchdown passes and 22 interceptions, completing 67.2% of his tosses.

If Keyes holds to his commitment, he would be the first four-star prospect to sign with the Green Wave since Darion Monroe of East St. John in 2012. He attends the same high school as did former Auburn quarterback and 10-year NFL veteran Jason Campbell. Keyes wears jersey #8 because of his admiration for Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson.
