McNeese cornerback Colby Richardson will take his college football career back to the east and closer to home.

The New Orleans native out of McMain has decided to transfer to LSU.

In the transfer portal since January, the 6-1, 185-pound Richardson was briefly committed to Colorado State. He will join the Tigers and assistant Frank Wilson, his former McNeese head coach.

At McMain, the versatile athlete was a four-year letterman who played cornerback, wide receiver and quarterback during his senior season. He also rann the 100, 200, 4×100 and 4×200 sprints in track and field.

Richardson had 22 tackles, two interceptions and three pass breakups last season for the Cowboys in 10 games. He was a 2017 signee who sat out as a redshirt in his first season, made four starts in 2018 and sat most of 2019 due to injuries.

In the spring of 2021 campaign, Richardson started all seven games for the Cowboys and made one interception, a late game play against Nicholls that sealed a 43-31 win over the 11th-ranked Colonels.

LSU has added veteran defensive backs Jarrick Bernard-Converse, Joe Foucha, Greg Brooks and Mehki Garner as experienced Division I transfers this offseason.
