Privateers pile up 15 hits, complete four-game sweep of HBU

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (9-7, 4-0) scored in their last six innings at the plate and pulled away to a 9-2 victory over the HBU Huskies (2-13, 0-4) on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field. The Privateers collected 15 hits in the win.

DECISIONS
Caleb Seroski (2-1) pitched three shutout innings for the win. Seroski entered with two on and no outs in the top of the fifth with the Privateers narrowly ahead 3-2. Seroski proceeded to retire the next three batters in order with two strikeouts.

Daxton Tinker took the loss for HBU. Tinker pitched four innings plus and allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits).

OFFENSE SURGES
The bats got going early and never relented. Kasten Furr reached four times while batting in the leadoff spot for the fourth consecutive game. Gaige Howard added three more hits to his weekend total and an RBI.

Travis Gober and Pearce Howard also had three hits each. Howard cracked two doubles, drove in a pair and scored twice. Salo Iza, Issac Williams, Jorge Tejeda and Darren Willis each had a hit. New Orleans also capitalized on all three HBU errors with all of them turning into runs.

HOW SWEEP IT IS
The Privateers pulled off their first sweep of a conference opponent since May 2019 when they swept a three-game series against HBU. For the weekend, New Orleans scored 30 runs.

NOTES
Cortlynn Ramirez and Haden Erbe each threw a scoreless innings in relief. Tyler LeBlanc retired nine of the first 11 batters he faced and struck out four in his second collegiate start. The Privateers drew six walks at the plate.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will take to the road to face Stephen F. Austin with a four-game series starting on Friday, Mar. 19. First pitch for the series opener is at 6:30 p.m.
