Privateers Struggle in First Leg of West Coast Swing

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Despite a solid start, the New Orleans Privateers (2-6) were not able to keep up with the Portland Pilots (8-2) in a 100-61 loss Saturday night at the Chiles Center.

Tyson Jackson and Marquez Cooper were the only UNO players to touch double figures with 10 points apiece. Jackson flirted with a double-double as he had seven rebounds before fouling wout while Cooper’s 10 marked a season-high. The Privateers had 22 turnovers and shot 34% from the field.

INSIDE THE BOX
Johnson chipped in seven points with two threes. Khaleb Wilson-Rouse, Preston Murphy Jr. and Simeon Kirkland each contributed six points while Wilson-Rouse (7 rebs.) and Murphy (6 rebs.) were also solid out of the backcourt on the glass.

Daniel Sackey and Omarion Henry scored five points apiece. Darrius Washington recorded a season-high with four points and chipped in two rebounds. Doughty also added two points and three rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams shot out to a quick start with Jackson scoring the first three baskets for the Privateers. After a beautiful three by Sackey tied the game at 11, Henry drew a foul and went two-of-two at the foul line as New Orleans took its first and only lead of the game. The Pilots began to sink shots from the three like wildfire and gained a 23-point lead over the Privateers at the end of the half, 54-31.

In the second half, there were no lead changes with the Privateers trailing by 21 at the least and 39 at the most.

UP NEXT
The Privateers will conclude their west coast swing at Boise State in Idaho on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. CT.
