Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III will join the USA Basketball Select Team in August for training camp, reported ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Murphy, LSU product Naz Reid and the other Select Team players will practice with New Orleans star Brandon Ingram, ex-Pelicans wing Josh Hart and the Team USA squad ahead of the 023 FIBA World Cup in Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

The Select Team will also join Team USA in the Philippines as potential injury replacements before the World Cup begins.

Murphy, the former New Orleans first round pick in 2021 out of Virginia, has averaged 14.5 points per game, shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 40.6 percent from three and 90.5 percent from the free throw line in 65 starts last season.

The FIBA World Cup begins on Aug. 23 and ends Sept. 10 with the championship game.
