NORMAN, Okla. – The New Orleans Privateers came back from a 10-run deficit after three innings but were left with too much to do in a 13-8 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Oklahoma came out firing on offense and had 10 runs through the first three frames. Back-to-back singles in the opening frame set the stage for a four-run first inning. Tanner Tredaway had a two-run single and Trent Brown also had an RBI single to put the Sooners up 4-0 after an inning.

After a run was scored in the second, the Sooners took advantage of two pop ups that fell for base hits and scored five runs in the third off six hits.

The Privateer pitching staff calmed things down from that point and the offense went to work in the fifth. Tyler Bischke and Kasten Furr reached on a single and a walk respectively. Then Amani Larry doubled into the gap in left-center that brought the first run in.

Later in the frame, Jeissy De la Cruz cranked a two-run home run to left field and the Privateers sliced the Sooners lead in half at 10-5.

New Orleans got the first two men on in the sixth as well but Carter Campbell came in out of the pen and quickly turned the tide, getting out of the inning unscathed. Campbell went three innings and needed just 25 pitches to record nine outs.

The Privateers fought until the end though as Miguel Useche delivered the second home run of the day for New Orleans, a three-run shot in the ninth to close the scoring for the day. It was Useche’s first homer as a Privateer.

INSIDE THE BOX
Useche led the way with four RBI on two hits. Larry, Bischke and Anthony Herron Jr. each had two hits on the day. Jacob Mead threw 1.2 scoreless innings. Pearce Howard reached base twice and had an RBI sac fly.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will look to win the series on Sunday with a first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
