Noesi solid on the mound in 6-3 ‘Cakes win at Memphis

Memphis – Hector Noesi threw a season-high 115 pitches and delivered 7.2 innings in a 6-3 victory for the New Orleans Baby Cakes at the Memphis Redbirds to open their series Saturday night.

Noesi allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits for his eighth win of the season. Kyle Keller pitched the final four outs for his seventh save.

The ‘Cakes improved to 3-2 on their current road trip.

New Orleans scored four runs in the top of the third. Rosell Herrera opened the inning with a single and advanced to third base with two outs. Jon Berti, on a rehab assignment from the Miami Marlins, delivered a two out single to score the games first run. Isan Diaz walked and then Lewis Brinson singled to load the bases before Deven Marrero stroked a three-run double to extend the lead to 4-0.

Diaz homered in the fifth inning, giving the ‘Cakes a 5-1 lead.

The ‘Cakes (45-37) trail first-place San Antonio in their division by five games.
