No. 4 Ole Miss rolls over ULM, 10-1

OXFORD, Miss. – Tim Elko’s third inning grand slam broke the game open and Gunnar Hoglund held ULM to just two hits over six innings while picking up a career-high 14 strikeouts as Ole Miss picked up a 10-1 series-opening win over ULM Friday night at Oxford-University Stadium and Swayze Field.

Elko also had an RBI double in the first inning to finish with two hits and five RBIs to pace the Rebels (12-2 overall). Hayden Dunhurst hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning and Kevin Graham had a solo shot in the fifth for Ole Miss. Peyton Chatagnier and Graham each had three hits.

Hoglund (2-0) picked up six strikeouts through the first two innings and was on his way to a career-best performance. He did not allow a run while giving up two hits with one walk and 14 strikeouts over six innings.

ULM (5-5) had just four hits and didn’t score until the eighth inning when Justin King was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Michael Cervantes for the only Warhawk run. Andrew Beesley doubled in the first inning and Travis Washburn tripled in the ninth. In between, only Mason Holt and Cervantes had base hits for ULM.

Cam Barlow (2-1) suffered his first loss of 2021, giving up six runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
