Ragin’ Cajuns earn fifth straight SBC title and 20th overall in 23 seasons of completed play

MONROE – Behind a complete game one-hit shutout from Sam Landry the 19th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball team captured the Sun Belt Conference regular season championship outright with a 1-0 win over ULM on Saturday, April 27 at the ULM Softball Complex.

Louisiana (37-15, 19-1 SBC) secured sole possession of its fifth consecutive SBC regular season title under the guidance of Gerry Glasco (2019, 2021-24) and the program’s 20th overall in the 23 seasons of completed competition in league history.

Landry had the Warhawks hitters mesmerized the entire afternoon, carrying a no-hitter into the fourth inning and yielding only one baserunner (via error) the rest of the way. She posted two separate streaks of seven consecutive batters retired.

Laney Credeur (1-for-3, double, RBI) provided the lone run the Ragin’ Cajuns would need to make it two straight over ULM (28-22, 9-11 SBC) in the series – an RBI double in the second inning.

The defense backed up Landry throughout the contest, the infield fielding eight ground balls behind her along with Maddie Hayden and Mihyia Davis snagging fly balls to the outfield to prevent extra base hits.

In addition to claiming the conference championship, Louisiana extended its nation-leading total of consecutive conference series won to 88 straight to continue a streak that dates back to March 2013.

Landry (7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K) pitched her sixth complete game shutout of the season, recorded her 20th victory, overall, and moved to 11-1 in SBC play. The junior hurler from Mont Belvieu, Texas matched her career-high for single-season wins set as a freshman in 2022 and improved to 30-2 lifetime in SBC play.

Louisiana stretched its winning streak to eight games and came away victorious for the 28th time in the past 31 games dating back to March 3.

The Ragin’ Cajuns extended their series win streak over the Warhawks, which dates back to the 2021 season, to 10 games. Louisiana upped its overall series lead to 121-28 which includes a 42-5 mark in SBC regular season play.

Saturday’s result inched the Ragin’ Cajuns closer to a 25th consecutive 40-win season, now just three wins shy of the accomplishment.
