National champion Tigers, Ragin’ Cajuns to play in 2024 Astros Foundation College Classic

Two Louisiana schools are among the six-teams set to participate in the 2024 Astros Foundation College Classic to be held at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.

The 24th Annual Astros Foundation College Classic returns to Minute Maid Park from March 1-3, 2024 and this year’s lineup is stacked. LSU, Texas, Texas State, U of H, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Vanderbilt will take the field for the nine-game tournament. The Cougars and Bobcats kick the tournament off followed by Vandy and the Ragin’ Cajuns. The Texas Longhorns and LSU Tigers headline the 3-day tournament at 7:05 pm Friday night.

LSU will be the defending national champions in 2024 while ULL will be coming off of a 41-win season and an NCAA Regional appearance. The Tigers and Ragin’ Cajuns will face off during the Friday through Sunday the event on Saturday night.

LSU will face new SEC member Texas on Friday night and another Sun Belt program, Texas State, on Sunday afternoon. ULL is slated to battle Vanderbilt on Friday afternoon and close out the Astros Foundation College Classic against the Houston Cougars on Sunday evening.

Both Louisiana programs have participated previously in the annual college baseball showcase formerly known as the Shriner’s College Classic. LSU will make its fifth appearance in the classic, with previous appearances in 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2022.

This marks the third time for the Astros Foundation College Classic to host the defending National Champion. This also occurred in 2006 with Texas and in 2004 with Rice.

All nine games of the tournament will air live on TV in the Astros’ five-state viewing area and be streamed online. Information on tickets and the official TV schedule will be released at a later date.
