McNeese’s Mariana Torres Named SLC Hitter of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – McNeese softball second baseman Mariana Torres has been named this week’s Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Torres, a sophomore from Pflugerville, Texas put together her best week as a Cowgirl last week in helping McNeese to a 4-0 record with a win over Houston and its Southland Conference opening series sweep over Incarnate Word.

For the week, Torres batted a blistering .727 with a .769 on base percent, and a 1.000 slugging percent. She hit safely in all four games and collected two or more hits in three of the four games last week. Torres went 8 for 11 at the plate with three doubles, 4 RBI, four runs scored, two stolen bases and one walk.

Torres is the second Cowgirl to earn the weekly honor but the first Cowgirl to earn hitter of the week honors. Pitcher Whitney Tate was named pitcher of the week on Feb. 27.
