Fresh off a historic week that saw both school and Southland Conference single season records fall, McNeese’s Dru Kuxhausen was awarded as this week’s league player of the week honors.

Kuxhausen sank 14 threes for the week in helping the Cowboys post a 2-0 mark with wins over Southeastern Louisiana (104-82) and Houston Baptist (100-80) to mark the first time since the 1998-99 season McNeese scored at least 100 points in back-to-back games.

Against SLU, Kuxhausen broke the single-season school record threes of 107 that was held by Demond Mallet when he knocked down seven in the game to give him 113 on the year. Three days later at HBU, his third 3 of his seven broke the conference mark of 115 and ended the game with 120 on the year.

He averaged 21 points per game and leads the NCAA in threes made and in threes per game (4.14) while ranking second in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage at 48.6 percent, a number that would break another school and league record.

This is Kuxhausen’s first Southland Player of the Week award and the sixth for the Cowboys this season, joining four-time winner Sha’markus Kennedy and Jan. 13’s honoree, A.J. Lawson.

McNeese will be back in action on Wednesday night when it visits Nicholls at 7 p.m. then will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Lamar. The Cowboys (14-15, 9-9) are currently tied for sixth place in the league standings with Central Arkansas and Northwestern State, and could finish as high as fourth place if the right pieces fall into place.
