BEAUMONT, Texas – In another showdown on the weekend, McNeese Baseball (16-14, 2-4 SLC) narrowly fell to Lamar (25-6, 5-1 SLC) 4-3 on a walk-off hit at Vincent-Beck Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinals plated the first run of the ballgame in the third inning for an early advantage before McNeese struck back a couple innings later.

One run down and facing a relief pitcher in the fifth, McNeese built momentum on a bases-loaded situation to drive in three runs kicked off by a Cooper Hext (senior) RBI single. Continuing the scoring trend, the Pokes plated runs in the ensuing two at-bats on a fielder’s choice and passed ball for the two-run advantage.

Lamar cut the lead down to one in the seventh before scoring two runs on a walk-off single by Wilson for the Cardinals.

Alexis Gravel, a junior, made his team-leading eighth start on the mound, remaining on the mound for six innings while permitting just one run. He threw 102 pitches while recording four strikeouts, facing 25 batters.

“I thought we threw the ball really well all weekend,” said head coach Justin Hill. “I thought the guys threw really well and the margins were thin.”

Following Gravel, redshirt senior Ty Abraham and senior JT Moeller closed out the final innings for the Cowboys.

McNeese is set to travel to Baton Rouge Tuesday night to battle #18 LSU at Alex Box Stadium.
