LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Baseball head coach Justin Hill announced on Tuesday the addition of Mikey Hoehner to his coaching staff as a volunteer assistant. Hoehner comes to Lake Charles after spending the 2022 season as an assistant coach at Navarro College.

“I’m extremely excited to welcome Mikey and Mary Grace to Lake Charles and our McNeese baseball family,” said Hill. “Mikey was a great player and is a rising star in our profession. I expect him to make a tremendous impact with our student-athletes and our coaching staff.”

While with the Navarro Bulldogs, Hoerner worked with the hitters, catchers, and outfielders and served as the first base coach. He also was at the forefront of the strength and conditioning program for the team and managed scouting reports.

The former catcher enjoyed a three-year career (2018-21) at Texas A&M in which he played in 123 games for the maroon and white, including 112 starts. Hoehner posted a .269 (104-for-386) career batting average, logged 69 runs, 18 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 53 RBI, and 61 walks while slugging .368 with a .385 on-base percentage.

Prior to Texas A&M, Hoehner played two seasons at Cisco College where he earned NTJCAC All-Conference honors as a freshman and sophomore.

The Houston, Texas native majored in Supply Chain Management and graduated with his Master’s degree in Sport Management from Texas A&M in 2021.

Recently married, he and his wife, Mary Grace, have a two-year-old dog named Moose.

Statement from Rob Childress (Texas A&M Head Coach 2006-2021) On Hoehner:
“McNeese Baseball absolutely hit a home run in the hire of Mikey Hoehner as their new volunteer assistant. Mikey is an absolute winner in every sense of the word and has made a major impact in every baseball program he has been a part of. Being at Texas A&M for three seasons, his leadership behind the plate and development of 10 pitchers that were drafted and went on to play professionally, scratches the surface of how great a leader Mikey is both on and off the field. His infectious personality and relentless work ethic make everyone around him better!”
