LSU associate athletic director and football general manager Brian Polian announced Tuesday he is leaving the Tigers to become the athletic director at his alma mater, Division III John Carroll University.

“I am pleased to welcome Brian Polian back to John Carroll University as the next leader of our Athletic Department and an impactful partner for our faculty, staff, coaches, and leadership team,” JCU president Alan R. Miciak said in a release. “Brian’s experience at Division I level and his understanding of our institutional mission will add another layer of excellence to our Inspired Futures strategy that focuses on academic rigor, experiential opportunities including highly competitive athletics, and personal formation for our students.”

Polian followed Brian Kelly from Notre Dame to LSU after spending five years on the second-year Tigers coach’s Irish staff.

Polian was the special teams coordinator at Notre Dame and took the same role at LSU but was reassigned this offseason to an off-field role as general manager. LSU’s special team units struggled in 2022.

The son of Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Bill Polian was the head coach at Nevada from 2013-17 with a 23-27 record and served as an assistant at Texas A&M, Michigan State, UCF and Buffalo.
