For LSU and Tulane, the preseason Associated Press college football rankings yielded a similar result to last week’s release of the coaches poll.

The defending SEC West division champion Tigers placed fifth and the reigning American Athletic Conference champion Green Wave were ranked 24th in the poll Monday.

Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Alabama are again slotted ahead of the Tigers but the Buckeyes are third while the Crimson Tide slotted in fourth, reversing their coaches poll positions.

The Green Wave are the only Group of 5 program ranked in either poll. It is the first time Tulane, which placed No. 23 in the coaches poll, has ever been in the preseason AP Top 25.
