Michael Braswell

LSU has dipped into baseball’s transfer portal for a potential starter of the future.

Former South Carolina infielder Michael Braswell announced on social media that he will be transferring to LSU.

The Mableton, Georgia native started 54 games at shortstop as a freshman in 2022, earning Freshman All-SEC honors when he hit .289 and saw five innings as a relief pitcher.

This past season, Braswell lost his starting job in the preseason and filled a utility infielder role for the Gamecocks. He played at second base, shortstop and third base while posting a .255/.372/.353 slash line. Braswell did not pitch in 2023.

While he has not shown much power in two college seasons with just three home runs in 354 at bats, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Braswell has displayed gap power, good speed and plus defensive ability at multiple positions.

Now in the College World Series, LSU is expected to be replacing both of its current starting middle infielders – shortstop Jordan Thompson and second baseman Gavin Dugas – heading into the 2024 season.
