Loyola’s Zach Wrightsil earns third, team’s seventh, SSAC Player of the Week award

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – There are now two men’s basketball players in the Southern States Athletic Conference who have been named Player of the Week three times this season, and both players are a part of the Loyola Wolf Pack.

Senior Zach Wrightstil was picked as this week’s SSAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, joining teammate Myles Burns as the only players who’ve been given that title this season.

It’s also the second consecutive week for Wrightsil and the seventh of his career. It’s also the team’s seventh award-winner this season, as Brandon Davis was also named Player of the Week early this season. Loyola now has seven of the 14 Player of the Week awards this season.

Wrightsil led the No. 3 Wolf Pack to two dominating wins over Middle Georgia State, 114-76, and Brewton-Parker, 114-69, last week, improving the team’s overall record to 19-1 and a 9-1 conference mark. Loyola will play Mobile and Faulkner this week, traveling to the Rams on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. while hosting the Eagles on Saturday at noon in The Den. Tickets for Saturday’s matchup with Faulkner, which is the only team to beat Loyola this season, can be purchased here.

The Prosper, Texas, native started his week with a triple-double performance against the Knights of MGA, scoring 25 points, recording 11 assists and pulling down 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. He was 11-for-14 from the field, too, and he also notched three steals in the contest. Two days later Wrightsil scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards with six assists and three steals in the win over BPC. He played just 24 minutes in the blowout win.

Wrightsil leads the team with a 16.6 points-per-game average this season, he’s second on the team with 8.3 rebounds a game, and third with 3.3 assists. His 62.2 field-goal percentage tops the SSAC, and he ranks second in steals and rebounds in the league, third in blocks, and eighth in assists.
