THIBODAUX, La. – Bryce Calloway and Alexander Saunier both hit three-run homers in the ninth and Calloway got the save as the New Orleans Privateers rallied to take at 12-11 decision against the Nicholls Colonels on Saturday at Didier Field.

The Privateers were trailing most of the night and entered the ninth down 9-6. After Mitchell Sanford dropped a single to shallow left, Miguel Useche worked a free pass. Calloway then came to the plate and took a 3-2 pitch over the right field fence which tied the game at 9-9.

Brady Prewitt and Dylan Mach got a single and a walk respectively against Haden Luke. That set the stage for Saunier who delivered the first pinch hit home run by a Privateer this season. New Orleans surged in front 12-9.

In the bottom of the ninth, Cade Crosby delivered a two-run home run that closed the gap to 12-11. Three batters later with the tying and winning runs aboard, Calloway came over from first base to get the last out.

He got ahead of Parker Coddou 1-2 in the count before he induced a ground ball to second base. Dalton Hurst threw to Maika Niu to preserve the series win and the third 2-0 start in conference play in Blake Dean’s tenure (2016, 2021, 2024).

The Privateers trailed for most of the game and were down by as many as four runs when they were behind 7-3 going into the fifth. Trey Usey pitched two solid innings and the Privateer offense started the comeback with two runs in the fifth on a Calloway single to center.

In the sixth, Issac Williams drilled a solo homer with two outs to narrow the gap to 7-6. The Colonels responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend to a 9-6 advantage.

Ryan Delorbe, who threw up a couple of critical zeros on the scoreboard, got the win after working 2.2 innings and striking out four batters while allowing one run.
