LAKE CHARLES – McNeese football head coach Sterlin Gilbert has announced an eighth signee to his first class, that being LaGrange High School running back Anthony Johnson.

Johnson joins seven other players who signed on Wednesday in the first day of the three-day early signing period for college football.

Johnson, a 5-11, 200-pound running back for the Gators and also a star on the basketball court, is the type of athlete Gilbert said he’s big on recruiting. He’s a speedy player to can play in all phases of the game.

“We got multiple guys that are dual sport athletes,” he said. “That’s something we’re going to be huge on in our recruiting and our evaluation in kids.”

Johnson committed to the Cowboys back in the summer and stayed true to that commit through the coaching change.
