LA Tech stays unbeaten with 10-2 win over Kent State

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech secured game two of their weekend series against Kent State with a 10-2 victory Saturday.

Louisiana Tech (6-0) served up 10 runs and 13 hits with two errors, and Kent State (1-4) came away with two runs and three hits on a sunny Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Patterson Park.

Tech wasted no time scoring at the beginning of the game thanks to an Ethan Bates RBI that scored Kasten Furr. Catcher Jorge Corona’s RBI double, which Dalton Davis scored a run to push Tech’s lead to 2-0. After an Adarius Myers RBI single to left field that led Corona to score, Louisiana Tech’s lead grew to 3-0.

Senior Dalton Davis (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB) continued his 16-game hitting and on-bases reach streak, following a double RBI to right field and Logan McLeod sliding into home for the Bulldogs. An Ethan Bates SAC RBI led Kasten Furr to put up another run on the board for Tech’s 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

Lead-off hitter Kasten Furr’s (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 HR, 1 BB) home run in the bottom of the fourth boosted Tech, taking a commanding 6-0 lead. Kent State fought back, picking up two runs in the fifth after a Josh Johnson RBI and a wild pitch from Tech’s Luke Nichols, leading Kent State Brody Williams to tag a run.

Cole McConnell made his presence known after a homer to right field in the bottom of the sixth. McConnell (2-for-5, 1 RBI, 1 2B, 1 HR) hit his second home run on the season. Once again, Ethan Bates (2-for-3, 4 RBI, 2 2B, 1 BB) delivered a perfectly placed ball on the right field line to give a 2 RBI double, allowing Dalton Davis and Cole McConnell to score. Louisiana Tech kept spitting out runs with a Jorge Corona RBI single to left field, letting Ethan Bates tag in a run, making it 10-2 in the eighth inning.

Louisiana Tech pitching held their own on Saturday, combing for 12 total strikeouts, three walks, two runs, and three hits on Saturday. Bell City, Mo. native Luke Nichols escaped a bases-loaded jam with two runs scored, six strikeouts, and 5.0 innings pitched while he also picked up his first win this season.

UP NEXT
Tech will look to wrap up the series against Kent State on Sunday with a 1:00 PM first pitch. Turner Swistak will start for the second time this season on the mound.
