NEW ORLEANS, La. — Encouraged by some early offensive production, senior starter Trever Kilcrease (1-0) secured his first win of the season as the Nicholls State University baseball program (8-6, 1-0 SLC) edged out a dramatic victory over in-state rival New Orleans (8-6, 0-1 SLC), surging past the Privateers by a 4-3 mark Friday evening at Maestri Field.

Kilcrease, whose been saddled with multiple no decisions thus far, composed yet-another strong showing on the mound, surrendering just a single run on four hits across a tough 6.1 innings of work. The Colonels aided the senior all they could while up to bat, jumping out to a 1-0 advantage in the first before adding two more runs in the sixth; following a late-game rally by UNO, the Red & Gray offense locked down a decisive insurance run in the eighth, setting up junior Joe Taylor for the eventual save.

KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS
— With the victory, the Colonels improve to an 8-6 record while New Orleans falls to an 8-6 mark.
— Beyond Kilcrease, junior closer Joe Taylor managed to maintain his late-game edge as the southpaw earned his fourth save of the year, tossing the final two frames with just one hit and one walk allowed.
