The Patriots (30-4) are seeking a second consecutive Division I state championship after knocking off Catholic League rival and fifth seed Holy Cross 8-0 in a game aired on ESPN 100.3 FM and at www.espn1003.com Friday. Curtis had won 12 straight games.

The Wolves (23-11) are in search of their first state title since winning the 4A crown in 1999. St. Paul’s advanced with a 3-0 victory over second seed Catholic of Baton Rouge in nine innings.

John Curtis Christian defeated St. Paul’s 4-3 on Feb. 27 at Covington. LSU signee Will Ripoll, who picked up the win in relief, is expected to start for the Patriots Saturday. In the first meeting, Ripoll went three and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out four.

Hunter Bufkin had three hits and three RBI to pace Curtis in the win over St. Paul’s.
