Jacob Mead

FRISCO, Texas – Jacob Mead earned Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors after a week that featured three saves in the past week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.

Mead earned a save in the midweek win against Jackson State and followed up with two saves over the weekend against HCU.

On Tuesday, Mead came into the game with a three-run lead but inherited a bases loaded, no out situation. He proceeded to strike out the heart of the Tigers’ order in 14 pitches (10 strikes). Seven of those strikes were swinging.

In the series opener against HCU, Mead extended beyond one inning for the first time this season when he registered the last six outs against the Huskies. Then in the series finale he entered in the seventh with a two-run lead.

Mead needed just nine pitches to get through the first of three innings. He continued that efficiency throughout the rest of the game as he got the last nine outs in 28 pitches. It was his longest outing as a Privateer.

Heading into the penultimate week of the season, Mead’s ERA sits at 0.47 and opponents have just a .108 batting average against the senior. Mead has 17 strikeouts to just three walks on the year.

Mead becomes the third Privateer to earn Player of the Week honors this season. Brandon Mitchell won Pitcher of the Week twice while Tristan Moore earned Hitter of the Week recognition.
