Gold Rush defeat Rams to win RRAC series 2 games to 1

AUSTIN, Texas — Joseph Semien pitched seven shutout innings, and Courtland Posey and Cohen Boyd had two RBIs apiece Saturday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana in an 8-3 Red River Athletic Conference baseball victory against Huston-Tillotson.

The Gold Rush (8-4 overall, 3-3 RRAC) won the final two in the three-game series against the Rams (4-9, 1-2).

Semien, a sophomore left-hander, started and won for the third consecutive Saturday. He allowed four singles, walked three and struck out seven.

Posey drove in two of XULA’s first three runs, and Boyd singled home Cam Finn and Chazz Clark during a three-run eighth inning.

Posey, Boyd, Finn and D’Aires Davis had two hits apiece. Deionte Norris scored twice. XULA scored in five of nine innings and led 7-0 through 7 1/2 innings.

Robbie Brue had three hits, and Zech Robichaux drove in two runs for Huston-Tillotson, which committed six errors.

XULA will play host to Rust in a noon Tuesday doubleheader at Wesley Barrow Stadium. Tickets are available online only. Tuesday weather forecast: partly cloudy, high of 81 degrees, wind from south-southwest, zero percent chance of rain.
