Ty Gordon

LAFAYETTE – LSU Shreveport’s Jeff Boyd, Nicholls’ Ty Gordon, Louisiana Tech’s Keiunna Walker and Tulane’s Moon Ursin were each honored on Wednesday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) as the Men’s and Women’s College Basketball Players of the Week, the organization announced.

The quartet was honored after being nominated by their respective basketball sports information directors and selected by a statewide panel of SIDs and media members.

Gordon, a two-time recipient, and Boyd were named the LSWA Co-Men’s Basketball Player of the Week while Walker (a four-time weekly winner) and Ursin (a two-time recipient) were each named Co-Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

TY GORDON, NICHOLLS
Gordon averaged 29.5 points on 57 percent shooting and sank 10 3-pointers as Nicholls extended its winning streak to seven games with a pair of home victories. Gordon scored a career-high 31 in the win over McNeese, making five 3s while adding five assists. He followed with a 28-point showing against HBU, connecting on 5 of 10 from behind the arc. The two performances gave the nation’s No. 16 scorer 14 games with 20 or more points this season.

JEFF BOYD, LSU SHREVEPORT
Boyd was on fire all week for the Pilots. To start the week in a 91-65 win over Jarvis Christian, Boyd finished with 20 points on 47 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. He grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists, and recorded a block as well. In the Pilots’ next game, a 113-74 win over Texas College, Boyd finished with a season high by any Pilot – 47 points. He made nine threes (60 percent) and added five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. His 47 points were six shy of the all-time record for a Pilot in a single game.

KEIUNNA WALKER, LOUISIANA TECH
Walker poured in a career-high 32 points during a road win at UTEP Thursday night to go along with three rebounds, two assists, and three steals while also drawing four charges. The senior shot 12-24 including 2-4 from three and 6-9 from the line. She followed that performance with a game-high 15 points in a loss at UTSA, while grabbing five rebounds, dishing out three assists, two steals and drawing another charge, her 30th on the year. Walker has now scored in double figures 26 straight games and is the only player in conference USA to do so in every game this season. Walker’s 18.3 ppg has the Techsters just one game out of the C-USA West Division lead.

MOON URSIN, TULANE
Ursin helped lead Tulane to a 2-0 week in American Athletic Conference competition with wins over Tulsa and Houston. In the road win at Tulsa on Wednesday, Ursin scored 16 points on 41.7 percent (5-for-12) shooting while adding nine rebounds, three assists and a block. She followed that performance by helping the Green Wave win its seventh consecutive game as she recorded her 10th double-double of the season in a 76-72 win over Houston on Sunday. Ursin chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds against the Cougars while also dishing out three assists and recording two steals.
