NEW ORLEANS ( – The 2017 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl is pleased to announce that Darren Woodson will serve as keynote speaker for the 17th Annual R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Luncheon on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017. The Bowl Luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Sheraton New Orleans Marriott (500 Canal Street).

After a standout career at Arizona State University, Woodson was drafted in the second round by the Dallas Cowboys in 1992. In his 13-year career as the strong safety for the Dallas Cowboys, Woodson recorded more tackles than any player in team history.

A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Woodson earned the reputation throughout the league as an effective run-stopper and a ferocious hitter. After a long and successful career, Woodson was forced to retire in December of 2004 due to injury.

Despite his intimidating style of play, Woodson was also known as one of the league’s classiest players. As the last active member of all three Cowboys Super Bowl teams of the 90s, Woodson was respected as the leader of the locker room and a mentor to the next generation of Cowboys. He was described in Sports Illustrated as “one of the hardest hitters in the NFL.”

Woodson was inducted into the Ring of Honor for Arizona State University and the Dallas Cowboys in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Since his playing career ended, Woodson has worked as a football analyst for ESPN, appearing on programs such as NFL Live and SportsCenter. He currently serves as a board member for the North Texas chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation. Woodson is also the Vice President of Partnerships at FanPrint.

Tickets for the luncheon are $65 and can be purchased online at www.NewOrleansBowl.org/luncheon.

The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Luncheon will proceed the Friday Night Concert and will begin the fan-centered events surrounding the 2017 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
