THIBODAUX, La. – Running back Kendall Bussey scored from two yards out in the final seconds for Team White as they rallied with 14 unanswered in the fourth quarter to knock off Team Red, 14-10, Saturday at John L. Guidry Stadium in the Nicholls State University football’s annual spring game.

Trailing 10-0, Team White finally scored when quarterback Colby Kizzie found Stefano Guarisco across the middle for a 20-yard touchdown with 6:02 remaining. Team Red picked up a first down before being forced to punt, giving White the ball back with less than four minutes remaining.

Running back Kyran Irvin ran for a short fourth-down conversion to keep White’s drive alive, and Charles Brooks hit receiver Dai’Jean Dixon for a short pass that Dixon ran for 20 yards. White moved the ball inside the red zone and Bussey carried the ball to the 2 with less than 30 seconds remaining. Bussey then got the ball again and plowed through the defense for the 13-10 lead. White added the extra point to make the final.

On the last play of the scrimmage, Red quarterback Chase Fourcade looked to throw downfield but had to scramble away from pressure. He then tucked the ball and ran, leading to a few laterals at midfield before the ball was recovered by White to end the game.

Fourcade had a touchdown pass right before halftime to David Robinson, Jr. for the first TD of the scrimmage. Robinson hauled in a leaping catch earlier in the drive and capped it with a 13-yard score.

Red scored the first points of the scrimmage on its second drive, receiving a 23-yard field goal by Alec Bland. The short field was set up on a Mike Mosley fumble recovery.

The White defense notched its first turnover early in the second quarter. After Sully Laiche was credited with a sack, Anfernee Poindexter stepped in front of a Fourcade pass for an interception.

Fourcade and Robinson connected for the touchdown before the intermission, but the defenses shut down the offenses for the next quarter. Red’s Khristian Mims was credited with a pair of pass breakups, including one on fourth down.

White’s first TD drive in the fourth was started on a 16-yard run by Irvin. Bussey also had a fourth-down conversion, rushing for eight yards up the middle after needing just a couple for the first down.

Trailing 10-7 with less than five minutes remaining, White’s defense came away with a huge sack on third down, forcing Red to punt the ball back. White’s game-winning drive started at its own 28.
