The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 424 different quarterbacks from 129 schools have been recognized. Seventy-three players from 66 different schools were honored during the 2020 season.

This week’s eight Manning Award Stars of the Week are:

Logan Bonner, Utah State (21-of-30, 361 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 95.1)
Bonner, who registers his fourth career 300-yard game while matching his career best for TD passes, leads the Aggies to 564 yards of total offense as they knock off Mountain West rival Hawaii, 45-31.

Jarret Doege, West Virginia (30-of-46, 370 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INT, QBR: 83.4)
Doege, who notches the eighth 300-yard game of his career, connects on a 22-yard TD early in the fourth quarter to tie the game and then directs another fourth-quarter scoring drive as the Mountaineers take down No. 22 Iowa State, 38-31, in Big 12 play.

Sam Hartman, Wake Forest (24-of-37, 402 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 97.6)

Matt McDonald, Bowling Green (13-of-19, 263 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 82.2)
McDonald, who entered the game with six touchdown passes this season, sets his career-best with four TDs and also runs for a 47-yard score to cap the Falcons’ first MAC victory of the season, 56-44, over Buffalo on the road.

Clayton Tune, Houston (27-of-37, 412 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 90.8)
Tune sets career-bests for passing yards and touchdowns while completing 10-of-12 third-down passes for 133 yards as the Cougars jump out early and hold on to defeat No. 19 SMU, 44-37 in AAC action.

Tyler Van Dyke, Miami (32-of-42, 426 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, QBR: 89.3)
Van Dyke sets career-highs for completions and passing yards as he leads the Hurricanes to a 38-34 upset of No. 17 Pitt in an ACC road game.

Caleb Williams, Oklahoma (23-of-30, 402 yards, 6 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 95.3)
Williams throws for 268 yards and four touchdowns, including a 67-yard hook-up, in the first half alone as he leads the Sooners to a big lead in a 52-21 Big 12 win over Texas Tech.

Bailey Zappe, Western Kentucky (33-of-46, 393 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INT, QBR: 85.8)
Zappe, who also runs for a touchdown, has his eighth 300-yard game of the season (every game) as he leads the Hilltoppers to a 45-13 Conference USA win over Charlotte.

While the Manning Award selected 32 quarterbacks for its preseason Watch List, additional quarterbacks will be added to the Watch List on October 21. Ten finalists will be selected and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.

In its first 17 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 13 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Mac Jones, Joe Burrow, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with six Manning Award honorees, while the Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) has had five winners. The Atlantic Coast Conference (Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) has had four Manning Award winners. LSU (Burrow and Russell), Oklahoma (Murray and Mayfield) and Texas (McCoy and Young) have each had two different winners.

All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
