The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 518 different quarterbacks from 133 schools have been recognized. Sixty players were honored during the 2022 season while 54 quarterbacks have been recognized so far this year.

This week’s eight Manning Award Stars of the Week are:

Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss (24-of-33, 387 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 95.9)

Dart, who posts the fifth 300-yard game of his Ole Miss career, directs a 9-play, 75-yard drive capped by the go-ahead touchdown with 1:40 to go as the Rebels hold off Texas A&M, 38-35, in an SEC showdown.

TJ Finley, Texas State (25-of-31, 301 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 90.2)

Finley, who also rushes for a pair of touchdowns, leads the Bobcats to 24 second-quarter points as they broke open a close game and roll to a 45-24 Sun Belt win over Georgia Southern.

Jordan McCloud, James Madison (28-of-36, 307 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT, QBR: 85.3)

McCloud, who also rushes for a career-best 104 yards and two touchdowns, celebrates his birthday by setting the school-record for single-game TDs as the Dukes remain undefeated with a 42-14 Sun Belt win over Georgia State.

Jalen Milroe, Alabama (15-of-23, 219 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 96.4)

Milroe, who sets an Alabama QB record with four rushing touchdowns to go with 155 rushing yards, directs the Crimson Tide to 21 unanswered points to close the game as it takes down No. 14 LSU, 42-28, in a critical SEC West showdown.

Bo Nix, Oregon (29-of-38, 386 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT, QBR: 85.9)

Nix also runs for a pair of touchdowns to record his second six-TD game at Oregon as he leads the Ducks to 21 second-quarter points to break open a Pac-12 battle with California on route to a 63-19 victory.

Jeff Undercuffler Jr, Akron (23-of-39, 298 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 61.2)

Undercuffler leads the Zips to 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including his five-yard touchdown run with 26 seconds to go, to lift Akron to a 31-27 win over Kent State for its first MAC win of the year.

E.J. Warner, Temple (27-of-33, 402 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INT, QBR: 97.2)

Warner, who has now thrown for 400 yards in two straight games, connected on TD passes of 13 yards and 16 yards in the fourth quarter as the Owls pulled away from Navy to pick up their first AAC win, 32-18.

Jacob Zeno, UAB (29-of-35, 484 yards, 5 TDs, 1 INT, QBR: 80.9)

Zeno, who sets the school’s FBS record for passing yards, connects on a 70-yard touchdown delivery with 4:20 to go, then drives the Blazers into position for a game-winning field goal with three seconds remaining as they take down Florida Atlantic, 45-42, in AAC action.

While the Manning Award selected 30 quarterbacks for its preseason Watch List, additional quarterbacks are expected to be added to the Watch List later in the season. Ten finalists will be selected and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.

In its first 19 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 14 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Stetson Bennett, Bryce Young, Joe Burrow, Mac Jones, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with eight Manning Award honorees, while the Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) has had five winners. The Atlantic Coast Conference (Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) has had four Manning Award winners. Alabama (Bryce Young and Jones), LSU (Burrow and Russell), Oklahoma (Murray and Mayfield), and Texas (McCoy and Vince Young) have each produced a pair of Manning Award winners.

All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
