The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 424 different quarterbacks from 129 schools have been recognized. Seventy-three players from 66 different schools were honored during the 2020 season.

This week’s eight Manning Award Stars of the Week are:

Chase Brice, App State (18-of-28, 347 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 92.3)

Brice, who also runs for 34 yards, directs a flawless final drive to set up a game-winning field goal on the final play of the game as the Mountaineers earn a critical Sun Belt win over No. 14 Coastal Carolina, 30-27, to snap the Chanticleers 11-game conference winning streak.

Sam Hartman, Wake Forest (23-of-29, 458 yards, 5 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 98.0)

Hartman, who adds a rushing touchdown, sets career-best marks for yards and touchdowns, including long TD passes of 41, 54 and two of 75 yards, as he leads the Demon Deacons to a wild 70-56 road win over Army.

Rocky Lombardi, Northern Illinois (17-of-27, 348 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 86.9)

Lombardi, who notches career-bests in passing yards and touchdown passes, caps an impressive Husky comeback from a 17-point second-half deficit by setting his team up for the game-winning field goal with 54 seconds to go in a 39-38 MAC road win over Central Michigan.

Tanner Mordecai, SMU (30-of-42, 427 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 88.9)

Mordecai sets a career-high for passing yards as he throws for over 300 yards for the sixth time this season, leading the Mustangs to a 55-26 AAC victory over Tulane.

Chandler Rogers, UL Monroe (25-of-35, 369 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 80.6)

Rogers, who also runs for 40 yards, shatters his career-bests in nearly every category, including throwing an 81-yard touchdown pass, as he leads the Warhawks to a 41-31 Sun Belt victory over South Alabama.

Garrett Schrader, Syracuse (16-of-34, 236 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 88.1)

Schrader, who rushes for 174 yards and matches the school-record for QBs with three touchdowns, connects on a pair of touchdowns in the final 2:28, including a 45-yard delivery with 19 seconds to go as the Orange complete an improbable comeback in a 41-36 ACC road victory over Virginia Tech.

Tyler Van Dyke, Miami (25-of-33, 325 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT, QBR:

Van Dyke, who tallies career-highs for completions, yards and touchdowns, keys the Hurricane offense as it upends No. 18 N.C. State, 31-30 in ACC action.

Bryce Young, Alabama (31-of-43, 371 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 90.3)

Young, who also runs for 42 yards and a pair of touchdowns, helps the Crimson Tide overcome a slow start as they dominate the fourth quarter in a 52-24 SEC victory over Tennessee.

While the Manning Award selected 32 quarterbacks for its preseason Watch List, additional quarterbacks will be added to the Watch List on October 21. Ten finalists will be selected and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.

In its first 17 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 13 different schools and from four different conferences. The Southeastern Conference (Mac Jones, Joe Burrow, Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) leads the way with six Manning Award honorees, while the Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) has had five winners. The Atlantic Coast Conference (Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) has had four Manning Award winners. LSU (Burrow and Russell), Oklahoma (Murray and Mayfield) and Texas (McCoy and Young) have each had two different winners.

All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
