Eight Northwestern State student-athletes named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

NATCHITOCHES — Eight Northwestern State softball players were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athletes for the 2016-17 academic year.

Student-athletes needed a 3.5 grade point average or higher in the past year to be honored.

NSU’s honorees include senior Sidney Salmans, junior Kayla Roquemore and sophomores Hayley Barbazon, Emma Hawthorne, Julie Rawls, Kaitlyn St. Clair, Adele Vincent and Elise Vincent.

Seven of those eight student-athletes appeared in at least 30 games this past season.

The Lady Demons’ eight selections ranked third in the Southland Conference behind Sam Houston State (12) and Abilene Christian (9).

Seven different Southland Conference softball programs accumulated 57 honorees on the NFCA list.
