Ed Reed is heading back to his alma mater for his next post-retirement job.

The Destrehan product who has been inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of fame was well as the Hall of Fames of both pro and college football will assume the role of chief of staff with the Miami Hurricanes football program, the school announced on Thursday afternoon.

“As Chief of Staff, Reed will serve in an advisory role to [Miami coach Manny] Diaz in all aspects of the football program, including strategic planning, quality control, operations, player evaluation and player development,” the Miami release said. “Reed will also provide assistance in team building, student-athlete mentorship and recruiting, as permissible under NCAA rules.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Ed back to Coral Gables,” Diaz said in a statement. “He is not only one of the most decorated players in Miami football history but also a devoted Cane who cares deeply about this program. All of our players, coaches and staff will be fortunate to tap into his experience, knowledge and passion on a regular basis.”

Perhaps the greatest safety in football history, Reed helped Miami win the national title in 2001 and the Baltimore Ravens capture Super Bowl XLVII inside the Superdome in 2013.
