Sugar Mill in downtown New Orleans will host the fourth annual event that will award $150,000 in prize money to college basketball’s top seniors

NEW ORLEANS (March 8, 2022) – The fourth-annual Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship returns to college basketball’s most exciting weekend this April, featuring extended ESPN television windows, a basketball-centric experience fit for diehard and casual hoops fans alike and $150,000 in prize money up for grabs for 64 of the most dynamic seniors from the 2021-22 college basketball season.

The Sugar Mill in downtown New Orleans will serve as the backdrop for the 2022 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship from April 1-3 with all games being televised live on ESPN networks or streamed via Twitter @3X3UHoops. ESPN2 or ESPNU will carry two hours of live coverage from each day of the event, beginning at 1 p.m. CT on April 1. The 2022 event will also be free and open to fans looking to take part in all of the exciting basketball festivities during the weekend.

The Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship welcomes 64 of the top college basketball seniors from all 32 Division I conferences to compete for their share of one of the biggest purses at any FIBA-sanctioned 3×3 event. Teams will compete for $150,000, with $50,000 going to the tournament champions. Each conference will be paired with another, forming 16 four-man rosters that will be separated into four pools. Each team will play six pool play games over April 1-2, setting up the knockout round of games on April 3. The winning team from each pool play game will win $1,000, victories in the first two knockout rounds will net another $1,000, a quarterfinal win is worth $5,000, a semifinal triumph is another $10,000, while the team that takes home the Tournament title will add $50,000 to their winnings.

“After missing out on the event in 2020 and hosting a closed event in 2021, we really feel like the Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship is back in 2022,” said Mark Starsiak, vice president of basketball at Intersport, which manages the event. “Between additional ESPN broadcast windows and an open fan experience, we can finally build off the incredible atmosphere from Minneapolis back in 2019, where thousands of fans flocked to the Mall of America to be part of this truly one-of-a-kind event. We’re in a perfect location in a perfect destination to hand out some well-deserved and hard-earned cash to the best of the best in college hoops.”

Dos Equis returns as the fourth-year title sponsor of the 3X3U National Championship, leading a roster of premium brands that will be part of the Tournament experience. As part of their on-site activities, fans 21 and older will have the opportunity to sample new Dos Equis products. Other nationally recognized brands that will be activating during the event include Rocket Mortgage, Dunkaroos, Invesco QQQ and Libman.

The Sugar Mill is one of New Orleans’ premier multi-use venue in the downtown area, having hosted conventions, concerts, trade shows, sporting events and a litany of other special events. With a combined 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, The Sugar Mill provides the perfect footprint for three days of highly competitive basketball and fan friendly experiences.

The Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship is following current City of New Orleans COVID-19 gathering guidelines and will follow any city guidelines that prevail on event day. As of February 1, 2022, all patrons must show proof of either full vaccination or a negative COVID test result within 72 hours (must include the individual’s name, date of test, and results clearly visible on an official report) to attend the event.

Kyle Montgomery, the voice of FIBA 3×3, and Robbie Hummel, current ESPN and Big Ten Network analyst, will be behind the mic calling games all weekend long. Tate Frazier and Mark Titus of the Titus & Tate Podcast will also suit up as the hosts of the Dos Equis Lounge to provide commentary, postgame interviews and more over the three-day experience.
